Unified AI-Enabled Health Referral System for Delivering Universal Access to Quality Health Care: Tanzania as Use Case - Development of a Framework for Unifying Stakeholders through Structured Quality Data Sets.

We successfully conducted a research project focused on developing a framework for a Unified AI-Enabled Health Care Referral System to support universal access to quality healthcare services in Tanzania. The project aimed to unify stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem through structured and reliable data, ultimately improving referral efficiency and healthcare outcomes.

The study examined current patterns of AI adoption in Tanzanian health facilities and assessed the strengths, weaknesses, and gaps of the existing referral system. It also analyzed the data management practices of stakeholders involved in healthcare referrals to determine the structure and quality of the data used. This informed the creation of a framework for collecting and storing structured data sets aligned with Know Your Patient (KYP) compliance.

The project culminated in the design and pilot implementation of a prototype AI-powered referral system tailored to Tanzanian needs. Additionally, training and capacity-building sessions were conducted for healthcare professionals and administrators to support system adoption and ensure effective utilization. The outcomes offer a scalable model for enhancing equitable access to healthcare through intelligent, data-driven referral networks.
